HUB Church Initiative

Mobilizing Local Churches to Connect Neighbors to Real Resources

Our goal is to equip local churches to become Resource HUBs—trusted places where individuals and families can find accurate, up-to-date, and easy-to-understand information about food access, transportation help, housing support, and other vital community services.

By sharing the right resources in the right way, churches can help people get the assistance they need quickly, with dignity, and without confusion.

Why This Matters

Many of our neighbors face real barriers every day:

  • Limited transportation makes it difficult for families to reach help when they need it most.

  • Information is scattered across many websites and organizations, leaving people unsure of where to turn.

  • Local churches are trusted in their communities and are already positioned to respond with compassion and care.

  • A coordinated HUB system closes the gap between available resources and the people who urgently need them.

When churches become HUBs, entire communities gain faster access to support—and every person is reminded that they are seen, valued, and not alone.

What HUB Churches Do

HUB Churches play a vital role in helping their communities access the support they need. Each HUB shares up-to-date information about essential services such as meal programs, utility and rental assistance, ID recovery help, transportation support, reentry resources, culturally relevant food access, and emergency services. By making this information easy to find and understand, HUB Churches help families receive timely assistance without confusion or unnecessary barriers.

A HUB Church does not need to create new programs or launch new ministries. Instead, it serves as a trusted connection point, guiding neighbors to resources that already exist across the city. The goal is not to replace organizations doing great work, but to bridge the gap between those services and the people who need them most.

Beyond sharing information, HUB Churches are committed to offering dignity-based care. They listen with compassion, encourage those who are struggling, and walk with individuals through their next steps. This relational approach ensures that people feel seen, respected, and supported—not just handed a list.

HUB Churches also participate in monthly collaboration, coming together to share feedback, update resources, learn from one another, and strengthen the unified response of the Church across Nashville. These gatherings help ensure that the HUB network remains accurate, effective, and deeply connected.

What UNITE Nashville Provides

UNITE Nashville equips HUB Churches with everything they need to serve effectively. This includes access to a centralized resource hub—a continually updated Google Doc that provides accurate, ZIP-code–specific information for the communities of highest need. These priority areas include 37208 (the largest concentration of food deserts in Davidson County), 37207 and 37218 (both experiencing elevated levels of food insecurity), and 37210 and 37203 (which have some of the highest poverty rates in the city). By organizing resources in this way, HUB Churches can quickly direct families to the most relevant help based on where they live.

In addition, UNITE Nashville provides training for staff and volunteers, a simple referral and follow-up system, and ongoing leadership support from partner churches and organizations. These tools help churches feel confident and prepared as they serve their neighborhoods.

The Heart Behind the Work

At the core of this initiative is a simple belief: “The greatest need is love. Christians full of love will come out.” UNITE Nashville exists to restore dignity, bridge service gaps, and unite the Church to care for the most vulnerable in our city. By working together, we can ensure that every neighbor has access to both practical help and the compassionate presence of the people of God.
